TITLE Project "Russian TeX", current situation and plans (jointly with S.V. Klimenko)
ABSTRACT: The project was started in 1996 "Russian TeX" and is supported by RFBR (grant 96-07-89406). At present, two teams, mainly, work on the project, the team of Dept. of Mechanics and Mathematics of Moscow State University and the team of Russian Center of Physical-technical informatics.

By now there have been developed localizations of TeX with similar user interfaces for DOS and for LINUX. The MS-DOS version is based on EMTeX, and the LINUX version is based on teTeX. Both the versions allow using the cyrillic fonts of lh- and "Protvino" families. The "Literaturnaya" fonts are included, which has been developed by the company "Paragraph".

The following basic macro packages are localized: Plain TeX, AMSTeX, LaTeX209, LaTeX2e. "TeX for MS Windows" is under development. The system APTeX, which takes maximally into account the Russian typographical traditions is being developed. A set of interface utilities between .dvi and .pdf formats is also implemented. Lots of documentation have been written. Detailed infromation is provided by the members of the teams. The plans for the nearest future include the construction of an environment with specialized text editor as well as the preparation of CD with software and documentation.
