St. Theodore Monastery

One of the richest monasteries in the past the St. Theodore Monastery is situated at the edge of the town Pereslavl-Zalessky. Thanks to its location it is perfectly seen from the Moscow-Highway. It was built where the battle between two Russian Princes took place in 1304.

In the centre of the monastery territory stands St. Theodore Cathedral. The legend says that the cathedral was built in 1557 after the son of the Russian Tsar Ivan the Terrible was born.

Wwedenskaya Church (1710) stands in the north of the cathedral.

Kazanskaya Church was built in 1714.

St. Theodore Shrine is three kilometres far from the monastery.

In the present St. Theodore Monastery belongs to the Russian Academy of Sciences.
