The Botik Museum-Estate

The Botik Museum Estate is situated on the south bank of Lake Pleshcheyevo, three kilometres from the town.

In 1688 the young Tsar Peter the Great began building, for his military games on Lake Pleshcheyevo the amusement boats and galleys which were the beginning of the Russian Navy.

There were some big ships, for example, the ship "Mars" has had 30 cannons. One of Peter's boats, the "Fortuna", is in the local museum. The others were lost in fire in 1783.

There is a monument to Peter the Great in the Botik (1852) created by architect A. Campioni.
