Pereslavl History and Art Museum

Pereslavl History and Art Museum is situated in Goritsky Monastery. It was established in 1919.

Of the 47 rooms in the Pereslavl Museum nearly half are used for the art gallery, where you can see masterpieces of the famous Russian artists like Shishkin, Polenov, Dubovsky, Kardovsky. The last one lived and worked in Pereslavl.

The ancient Russian Art is represented by the icons from monasteries and churches of Pereslavl. There are true masterpieces there, such as The Archangel Gabriel and The Archangel Michael icons (16th century) from St. Nicetas Monastery.

There is a collection of over a hundred sculptures in the museum. The most outstanding is The Saviour Grieving at Midnight (17th century).

There are many interesting works by Russian embroideresses in the museum.
